Civil Aviation Worker’s Day in Turkmenistan Date in the current year: May 4, 2024

The history of Turkmenistan’s civil aviation began in 1927, when the first air route in the county connected the cities of Türkmenabat (then Chardzhou) and Daşoguz (then Tashauz). However, the professional holiday of Turkmen civil aviation workers marks the official anniversary of the founding of the first airline in independent Turkmenistan.

The flag air carrier of Turkmenistan is Turkmenistan Airlines (Türkmenhowaýollary). Founded on May 4, 1992, it was the first airline in the former Soviet Union to purchase a Boeing 737-300. As of August 2015, the passenger fleet of the Turkmenistan Airlines includes 5 types of Boeing aircraft (717-200, 737-300, 737-800, 757-200, 777-200LR). Turkmenistan Airlines also has a cargo and special (VIP) fleet.

Turkmenistan officially joined the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) in 1993. The first flight in independent Turkmenistan was completed on April 19, 1993. It was a cargo flight on IL-76 from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan to Brest, Belarus. As of March 2015. Turkmenistan Airlines carries out regular passenger flights to 16 cities in Europe and Asia.
