Father's Day in Samoa and Tokelau Date in the current year: August 12, 2024

Father's Day in Samoa and Tokelau One of the public holidays in Samoa and Tokelau is Father's Day, that is observed annually on Monday after the second Sunday in August. Although this is a public holiday, unfortunately, it's not given much attention to.

Celebration of Father's Day was born in the USA, when Sonora Smart Dodd decided to complement celebration of Mother's Day, invented and established by Anna Jarvis. Originally the first celebration of Father's Day was dedicated to Sonora's father, William Jackson Smart, who rose five children on his own. Celebration of father's day was suggested on June 5, birthday of Sonora's father, but the honoring ceremony was not made in time. The day of celebration was moved to the third Sunday in June, and this date is widely accepted.

Although Father's Day has an original date of celebration, many countries around the world chose their own dates. For instance, Samoa and Tokelau celebrate this holiday on Monday after the second Sunday in August. Father's Day, as well as Mother's Day, is a public holiday, the offices and businesses are closed, but no special celebration is organized.
