Soup Day in Germany Date in the current year: November 19, 2024

Soup Day in Germany There is nothing better than a plate of hot and nutritious soup on a cold day or night. This dish is known everywhere in the world and in Germany it even has its own holiday – Soup Day, which is annually celebrated on November 19.

Potato soup (German Kartoffelsuppe) is one of the most popular soups in Germany (especially in Bavaria). This is a traditional dish of German cuisine and it's main ingredient is potatoes. It's also cooked with other vegetables, like carrots, celery and onions. When the potatoes are cooked, they are mashed to make soup thicker, and then comes meat. Meat makes soup more nutritious and tastier, that's why Germans never forget to add it. It can be fried bacon, sausage or meatballs, everything depends on personal taste.

Even if you don't feel like cooking potato soup, you can chose any kind of soup you prefer to celebrate this holiday. French, Chinese, Spanish, hot or cold, savory or fruit soup, bouillon, consommé or cream soup... There are so many soups, that no one can count them! So you have a lot of reasons to celebrate Soup Day and enjoy a new dish or your favorite soup, cooked according to your grandma's recipe.
