Engineer's Day in the Dominican Republic August 14 is Engineer’s Day in the Dominican Republic. Every year the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA) is responsible for organization of special festive events for all engineers.

The history of industrial engineering of the Dominican Republic is tightly connected with the establishment and development of the sugar industry. The first engineering school was established in 1966 in order to meet the high demands of the profession. This event marked the beginning of fast development of the engineering profession.

In present-day Dominican Republic, CODIA organizes special festive event in Santo Domingo, the capital and the largest city of the country. Hundreds of engineers from the Dominican Republic come to attend this event. Every year the college tries to make up something new, that's why festive event may vary from a mere party to a solemn ceremony of wreath laying and attendance of a special mass. The event is usually opened by the speech of the president of CODIA, who highlights the importance of the engineers for the country.
