Father's Day in Switzerland Date in the current year: June 2, 2024

Father's Day in Switzerland Father's Day in Switzerland (Schweizer Vätertag) is celebrated on the first Sunday in June. It was launched in 2007 by männer.ch, an umbrella association of progressive father's and men's organizations incorporating over 20 voluntary and professional organizations.

männer.ch created Swiss Father's Day to celebrate fatherhood, raise awareness of the role fathers play in society, recognize fathers as role models, and encourage fatherly commitment. On this day, the issues concerning modern fatherhood and challenges surrounding family are addressed. The motto of the holiday is “Swiss Father's Day – for 365 reasons” (Schweizer Vätertag – aus 365 Gründen).

Father's Day events focus on recognizing the contribution of male parenting and importance of the father figure in everyone's life. The events are organized by männer.ch, partners and official sponsors across Switzerland. They include, but are not limited to, brunches, family services, barbecues, sporting events, etc.

Interestingly, the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino also celebrates Father's Day on March 19, Saint Joseph's Day. Saint Joseph, the husband of the Virgin Mary and stepfather of Jesus Christ, is venerated as the patron saint of fathers.
