Grandparents' Day in the Philippines Date in the current year: September 8, 2024

Grandparents' Day in the Philippines Grandparents' Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, including in the Philippines. Annually this jolly holiday takes place on the second Sunday in September.

The Filipino Grandparents' Day is celebrated according to the American tradition, but the years of adaptation of these two holidays don't coincide. The first official celebration of Grandparents' Day in the USA was held in 1978, while the Philippines started to celebrate this event only in 1987. Since then this holiday became very popular among elderly people and children, as a perfect day to spend more time with each other.

Grandparents play a very important role in the life of every Filipino family. Grandparents help their grandchildren with lessons and sometimes become babysitters, when the parents are busy. Modern society couldn't survive without the help from grandparents, that's why their efforts and contributions deserve appreciation.

Grandparents' Day is not only a family day in the Philippines. Many hospitals also organize special events for the elderly people: free medical checkups, glasses, medicines and flowers.
