Grandparents' Day in South Africa Date in the current year: October 6, 2024
South Africa takes a number of steps to improve life and protect rights and interests of elder persons. Celebration of Grandparents' Day on the first Sunday in October highlights the achievements made by the government.The government of South Africa started taking proactive steps towards improvement of life of elder people only in 1994. It implements a number of various programs and adopts laws to protect status and rights of every elder citizen and their integration into society.
Grandparents' Day is not just a holiday for whole family, it's also a part of a bigger event, National Elder Persons Week, that celebrates the contribution the elderly people make into life of South Africa. They are the pillars of many families and also provide care for vulnerable children and orphans.
Every year President of South Africa congratulates elderly people with Grandparents' Day end reminds youth, that they have to respect, love and appreciate their grandmothers and grandfathers for all the things they do for the family well-being.
