Carnival in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Date in the current year: July 1, 2024
Previously, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as other countries, organized the carnival in the end of February or the beginning of March. It was connected with Lent, but in 1976 the carnival was moved to July.
There were several reasons to do that. One of them was coincidence with the carnival in Trinidad and Tobago, that is well known in the Caribbean and throughout the world. Due to this the carnival in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines came out of shadow.
The annual carnival is the main event of the year. It consists of marathon of Calypso music, performances of folk orchestras, spectacular dance competitions and colorful parades. Most of the events are organized in Kingstown, the biggest city and the capital of the country.
Carnival Monday and Carnival Tuesday are public and national holidays in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
