World Wildlife Day Date in the current year: March 3, 2024

World Wildlife Day World Wildlife Day was established by the UN in 2013. This day is annually observed on March 3, and it's a great opportunity to celebrate multiple forms of wild flora and fauna.

World Wildlife day was established on December 20, 2013 on the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The date of the Day celebration coincides with the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973. This convention today plays an important role in insuring that international trade doesn't affect the species survival.

World Wildlife Day gives people the opportunity to experience the beauty and diversity of forms of wild flora and fauna and at the same time it reminds everyone about the importance of active fight with wildlife crime, that have broad environmental, social and economic consequences.

At the moment, the list of species protected by CITES, includes about 5000 species of animals and 28,000 species of plants. Import, export, re-export and introduction from the sea of species of flora and fauna should be made on the basis of special permits and certificates.
