Thanksgiving Day in Norfolk Island Date in the current year: November 27, 2024

Thanksgiving Day in Norfolk Island Thanksgiving Day isn't observed on the mainland Australia, however, Norfolk Island, that is Australian external territory, does celebrate this holiday. It annually falls on the last Wednesday in November.

Celebration of Thanksgiving Day is connected with celebration of the English Harvest Home festival, that took place around the end of November. During the 1890s American trader, who settled at Norfolk, Isaac Robinson proposed an idea of dressing All Saints Church in American-like style for Thanksgiving. The idea was supported, because at that time Americans had a great influence on other nations around the world.

Robinson died the next year, but his idea to decorate the church with the fruits was followed. People used to take some food home from the church after the service, but today it's auctioned. The risen money are used to keep the church. People also sing American hymns and share a potluck meal, consisting of cold pork, chicken, bananas and traditional American pumpkin pie.
