World COPD Day World COPD Day (also World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Day) is annually observed on the second or third Wednesday in November (mostly the third). This international observance was created in 2002.p>Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one the most spread diseases around the world. According to WHO estimates, about 210 million people around the world suffer COPD. By 2030 COPD will become the third leading cause of death worldwide. Many people risk to catch the disease, exposing themselves with the main risk factors, including smoking, air pollution, dust and chemicals.

The first observation of COPD Day was organized by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease in 2002 to raise public awareness of this disease. The observance is supported by the World Health Organization and annually various educative and preventive events are held in over 50 countries around the world. The events include educative evenings, opening of health clinics, free pulmonary function tests etc.
