A credit union is an organization providing financial support to its members. The union is a non-profit cooperative organization, that is an alternative to the banks. Members of a credit union provide credit at competitive rates and other financial services to its members. The members of the credit union do not intend to make profit on debts of other members, they provide a financial support for wellbeing of other members.

The World Council of Credit Unions is a leading association for credit unions. The World Council cooperates with various organizations and it provides its services in 103 countries around the world.

The World Council established International Credit Union Day, that is celebrated since 1948. Observation of this day draws public attention to credit unions and their history and promotes their achievements. Credit unions have done a significant work around the world and every willing organizations may be involved in their activity.
