World Architecture Day Date in the current year: October 7, 2024

World Architecture Day World Architecture Day is a global observance held annually on the first Monday of October. It was inaugurated by the International Union of Architects in 1985 and was originally celebrated on the first Monday of July.

The International Union of Architects (UIA) is an international NGO, a global federation of national associations of architects that represents over 1.3 million architects in 124 countries and territories. It was established in 1948 in order to unite the architects of the world.

World Architecture Day (also known as World Day of Architecture) was created in 1985 as a celebration of architecture and professional holiday of architects. The observance was originally held on the first Monday in July, but in 1996 the UIA moved its date to the first Monday in October. Such a date was chosen because on this day the United Nations celebrate World Habitat Day.

World Architecture Day events and activities typically include (but are not limited to) conferences, forums, symposia, panel discussions, exhibitions etc. Every year, the UIA selects a new theme for the day and encourages its members to link their events and activities to the current year's theme. For example, the theme of 2014 World Architecture Day was “Healthy Cities, Happy Cities”.
