Army Day in Peru Army Day is celebrated in Peru on December 9. This holiday was established to commemorate the anniversary of Peru's victory in the Battle of Ayacucho, that is generally regarded as the end of the Peruvian War of Independence.

The Peruvian War of Independence started in 1811 and it's generally considered, that is finished after the decisive victory of the Peruvian army in the Battle of Ayacucho under command of General Antonio José de Sucre. However, hostility lasted till 1826 till the last royalists surrendered the Real Felipe Fortress.

The Battle of Ayacucho was fought on December 9, 1824 at Pampa de Ayacucho, in the suburb of Ayacucho. The army consisting of Peruvian, Argentinian, Venezuelan, Colombian and Chilean soldiers defeated the Royalists. This battle became one of the most famous events in the history of Peru, that is why its anniversary was chosen to celebrated Army Day. Grand military parade traditionally marches along the streets, to show glory of the Peruvian Army.
