Grandparents' Day in Estonia Date in the current year: September 8, 2024

Grandparents' Day in Estonia Grandparents' Day is a new holiday in Estonia. It's celebrated annually on the second Sunday in September since 2010. The holiday was established by the government of Estonia in order to strengthen relations between different generations within the families.

Grandparents' Day exists in different countries around the world. It was established in the USA in 1978 after Father's Day and Mother's Day had already become national holidays. This holiday reminds everyone about the role that grandparents play in upbringing of children. However, sometimes this holiday is separated to Grandmothers' Day and Grandfathers' Day (like in Poland).

Grandchildren pay special attention to their grandparents on this day. In turn, the grandparents greet their grandchildren and prepare special treats for them. Traditional festive events are organized to celebrate this holiday. Children participate at plays and concerts, that are staged at schools and kindergartens, make handmade cards and presents to present their grandparents on this day.
