Teachers’ Day in Jamaica Teachers' Day in Jamaica is celebrated annually on the first Wednesday in May, although the official date is May 6. On the occasion of the holiday, most schools are closed early to give teachers an opportunity to have well-deserved rest.

In almost any country, teachers form a very important part of the society as they make a significant contribution to the education and development of the coming generation. That is why almost every country in the world has its own national Teacher's Day, and Jamaica is no exception. Every year in May Jamaican students pay tribute to their teachers and give them small gifts to express their gratitude an appreciation.

Education in Jamaica is primarily modeled after the British system as the country used to be a British colony. Its main stages are early childhood education, primary education, secondary education, and tertiary education. There are more than ten teachers' colleges in Jamaica that train teachers for every stage.

Jamaica also celebrates World Teachers' Day which is held annually on October 5. It is marked with teaching conferences and other events appropriate for the occasion.
