International Color Day Date in the current year: March 21, 2024
International Color Day was proposed in 2008 by the Portuguese Color Association. Its president Maria Joao Durao presented the idea of International Color Association. Her proposal was agreed by members of the association, representing more than 30 countries.
The choice of the date was a big problem for the association. The idea exposed by Austrian representative Leonard Oberascher prevailed over others. According to his idea, the spring equinox was the best date for the celebration. The night and day are approximately equally long, that symbolically relates to the complementary nature of light and darkness, that are expressed in all cultures.
International Color Day celebration features various activities, that are related to color and its perception. These can be arts exhibitions, contests on color and light design, free workshops for adults and children on the use of color and light etc.
