Data Privacy Day Date in the current year: January 28, 2024
Data Privacy Day was created to acknowledge people about what kind of their data is used and why. The educational initiative of the observance initially focused only on raising awareness about the importance of protection private data online, especially in the context of social networking. The educational context expanded and now Data Privacy Day organizes and promotes numerous events and activities aimed to stimulate the development of professional tools helping protect private data.
Data Privacy Day was created by the Council of Europe in 2007. The U.S. declared National Data Privacy Day in 2009. The observance was reorganized in 2010 and 2011. Numerous organizations participate in observance of Data Privacy Day. Among them are Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Online Trust Alliance (OTA) and the UK Information Commissioner.
