National Voter's Day in India Date in the current year: January 25, 2024

National Voter's Day in India National Voter's Day in India is celebrated annually on January 25. This observance was introduced by the Election Commission in 2011. The date was chosen to commemorate the foundation day of the Commission.

The young Indian voters, who attain the age of 18, show less interest and activity in voting. In some regions of India the enrollment of youth into electoral roll is as low as 20-25%. The Election Commission decided to change the situation, that is why National Voter's Day was introduced in India.

The Election Commission annually checks the lists of eligible young voters, who attain the age of 18 as on January. The eligible voters are given their Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) on January 25. It is expected, that such exercise should give the young voters a sense of pride, empowerment and inspire to exercise their franchise. The new voters are also provided with a badge with a logo of the Commission that says “Proud to be a voter – Ready to vote”.
