International Hummus Day started from Hummus Day, a special event launched by a young entrepreneur Ben Lang. He decided to make a holiday, that could bring together all people from the Middle East and promote Israel. He chosen it to be a food holiday, hummus in particular, because it's very popular in Middle Eastern cuisine.
The observance was started in 2012 and it spread to many other countries. However, the origin of this day is in Israel, where the most famous hummus place, Abu Gosh, gave out free hummus for all day long.
Annually around 85,000 people participate in celebration of International Hummus Day by eating hummus at home or going to locations, where hummus is served. They also share photos in Instagram and tweet about Hummus Day using hashtag #hummusday.Remind me with Google Calendar
