Textile Industry Workers' Day in Turkmenistan Textile Industry Workers' Day is an official professional holiday in Turkmenistan observed annually on the first Sunday in June. It was first celebrated in 2006.

Textile Industry Workers' Day was established by President Saparmurat Niyazov. He announced the creation of a new professional holiday during the opening of the new building of the Ministry of Textile Industry.

Textile industry plays an extremely important role in the national economy of Turkmenistan. Half of the country's irrigated land is planted with cotton. Turkmenistan traditionally exports both raw cotton and textiles to many countries, including Russia, Ukraine, China, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Canada and the United States.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the country's textile industry began to develop rapidly. For instance, between 1991 and 2004, fourteen cotton-processing plants were opened, which allowed to increase the volume of processed cotton fiber to 51%.
