Teachers' Day in Panama Date in the current year: December 1, 2024

Celebration of Teachers' Day in Panama it timed to coincide with the birthday anniversary of Manuel José Hurtado, who is called to be the father of Panamanian education. Don Manuel José Hurtado was born on December 1, 1821. He was a prominent Colombian engineer and educator. He spent much time modernizing and improving education system of Panama. He founded many schools, colleges and the Normal School for men.

Hurtado's achievements were not forgotten and his birthday anniversary is celebrated as Teachers' Day in the Republic of Panama. Students and adults congratulate their teachers and give them presents. Special picnics may be organized for students of primary and secondary schools. Everyone enjoys traditional dishes, like sweet tajadas and savory empanadas.
