Communist Party of China Founding Day The Communist Party of China is the ruling political party in China. The day of its foundation is a public holiday. On July 1, the Chinese celebrate Communist Party of China Founding Day (or CPC Founding Day).

The Communist Party of China originates in the May Fourth Movement of 1919. This was an anti-imperialist and cultural movement that developed from student demonstrations. The leaders of the movement, Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao, supported Leninism and world revolution. They thought that the October Revolution in Russia was a groundbreaking event that would start a new era for all oppressed countries everywhere. They organized the first Marxist groups in North China and later became key figures in the foundation of the CPC.

The CPC was founded in 1921. Originally several illegal meetings of the First CPC Congress took place at the end of June. On July 1 the First National Congress was formed, which marked the official foundation of the CPC. The party declared that its ultimate goal was to build socialism in China.

The party grew very quickly and played a crucial role in the establishment of the People's Republic of China. Nowadays the Communist Party of China is the world's largest political party, with a membership of more than 86 million people.
