Archivist Day in Kyrgyzstan Date in the current year: August 30, 2024
Archivists are information professionals responsible for the assessment, collection, organization, preservation, maintenance of control over and provision of access to archives and media records that have long-time value.
Archivist Day in Kyrgyzstan was established to commemorate the resolution “On Organization of Archives in the Kirghiz Autonomous Oblast” passed on August 30, 1926. According to the resolution, the Archive Bureau was created on September 1 that same year. These events are regarded as the first step in the development of the archive system in Kyrgysztan.
Currently, the Kyrgyz Republic has 3 central, 8 regional and 53 district state archives. Besides, the cities of Bishkek and Osh have their own separate state archives. The number of archive employees in Kyrgyzstan is estimated at 5,000. All of them receive congratulations on their professional holiday, August 30.
