National Day in Monaco Date in the current year: November 19, 2024

National Day in Monaco National Day, that is also known as Sovereign Prince's Day, is observed in Monaco on November 19. People of Monaco celebrate the anniversary of ascension of the reigning Prince of Monaco to the throne.

During long time Monaco couldn't gain full independence from other countries. From time to time it was administered as a colony of Grinoa, as a French protectorate and even occupied by Italy. However, Monaco gained its sovereignty in 1861, that was recognized by Franco-Monegasque Treaty.

Albert II inherited the throne of Monaco in 2005 after the death of his father, Reiner III, who died on April 2, 2005. The first part of the enthronement of Albert II took place on July 12, after the end of a three-month period of mourning. The second part of the enthronement was on November 19.

Every reigning prince of Monaco chooses the date of National Day. Mostly they decide it to be the day of commemoration of their patron saints. Prince Albert II decided to celebrate National Day on the day of his final ascension to the throne.

A grand military parade marches along the streets of Monaco on this Day. The parade it followed by a solemn mass in the Saint Nicholas Cathedral.
