Armenian Press Day Armenian Press Day is an official professional day of all employees of printed matters in Armenia. This holiday annually falls on October 16, that is a publishing anniversary of the first Armenian magazine Azdarar in 1794.

The first issue of Azdarar was published by the Armenian colony in Chennai (formerly Madras), India. The magazine was published in Armenian language by Harutyun Shmavonyan. The monthly issue covered cultural, historical, political and economic issues. There were only 18 issues, the magazine was closed in 1796.

Armenian Press Day was officially created in 2004, however, it exists for a longer period of time. Usually government of Armenia doesn't organize any special events or activities, but all employees of this industry annually held special events. Owners of printed matters are totally responsible for organization of any events for celebration of this holiday.

Employees of Armenian printed matters don't have a day off, because this is a working day. Relatives and friends congratulate them on this professional day and wish good luck.
