Police Day in Azerbaijan Date in the current year: July 2, 2024

Police Day in Azerbaijan July 2 is Police Day in Azerbaijan. This is an official professional observance that commemorates the creation of the country's police force in 1918. It is also referred to as Day of Azerbaijan Police Workers.

On May 28, 1918, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic proclaimed its independence. Shortly after, the Ministry of Internal Affairs was established. The Ministry was a government authority in charge of Azerbaijan police force created on July 2, 1918. However, in 1920 Azerbaijan was annexed by the Soviet Union, and its national police was replaced with Soviet militsiya.

After restoration of independence of Azerbaijan in 1991, its Ministry of Internal Affairs was reestablished, along with the national police force. The country's police force consists of many divisions and apartments, which include both regular and specialized police divisions. The National Police of the Republic of Azerbaijan is a member of INTERPOL. Police officers are trained at the National Police Academy.

Police Day is the professional holiday of all law enforcement employees in Azerbaijan. It is also a remembrance day for police officers who died while in the line of duty (for example, were killed during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict).
