Day of Azerbaijani Customs Date in the current year: January 30, 2024

This professional day was established in 1997 by a presidential decree. January 30 was chosen as the day of observance since it's the day of establishment of the first customs service in an independent Republic of Azerbaijan in 1992.

The history of Azerbaijani Customs Service begins in the 19th century, when the Baku customs was established in 1809. At that time it was a part of the Astrakhan Customs District of the Russian Empire. The customs service had seen several changes, till the Customs of the Republic of Azerbaijan was created.

Establishment of the State Customs Committee contributed to the acceleration of turnover and facilitated the import and export reduces. And creation of the main customs points affected the prevention of smuggling. The State Customs Committee strengthens the economic basis of the sovereignty and state security, protects its economic and political interests, it promotes the fight against drug trafficking and international terrorism.
