Allama Iqbal Day in Pakistan Allama Iqbal Day is one of the public holidays in Pakistan. It's annually celebrated on November 9, that is anniversary of the birthday of a great poet of Muhammad Iqbal.

Muhammad Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877 in the Punjab Province of British India (present-day Pakistan). He studied at Government College Lahore and decided to continue his higher education in the West. He studied at Trinity College, University of Cambridge in England, where he obtained Bachelor of Arts and then moved to Germany to study doctorate at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich.

During the 1930s he was an active person in the Muslim League, supporting federation of the Islam provinces into one single state. This would protect Muslims rights and their self-determination and promote peace in India. Iqbal was a prominent politician and also became popular as a poet, who is often regarded to be the Poet of the East.

Iqbal died in 1938 and never saw his dream to come true. Today he is considered to be one of the founding fathers of Pakistan, whose views became the basis for declaration of its independence from India.
